How to crack AZ-900 certification: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals

I want to share my experience in this article on how to pass the AZ-900 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals Certification exam, especially on what I have prepared and what sources I used to crack this exam. I hope this helps a little bit to the people who plan to take their AZ-900 certification exam. First of all, whoever is planning to take the exam after November 9, 2020, should be aware that Microsoft is updating this exam's content on November 9, 2020, so please refer to the skills measured document on the Microsoft website to see what will be changing. Let's get into the topic – so recently, the company I am working for started moving towards Azure technologies and cloud migration. As a techie, I am always interested in learning new technologies and exploring new possibilities in my work. So, I thought this is the right time to upgrade my skills to learn Microsoft azure as it will help me in my work, especially at the migration phase. I thought of taking the Microsoft Azure Fundamentals exam to see what level I understand the fundamentals of Cloud Concepts, Azure Services, Security, Privacy, Compliance, trust, Pricing Service level agreements, and lifecycles?

Initially, I was confused with my choices to prepare for this certification as I am new to the cloud environment, even though I know some of the cloud concepts in bits and pieces. Later, one of my colleagues suggested me to go over the Microsoft Free Training itself instead of going through the other website's certification courses. So, I started looking into Microsoft documentation to prepare for the exam, and there will be two ways to prepare for the exam, which is more than enough to pass this exam.

Two ways to prepare:

  • Online – Free
  • Instructor-led–Paid

So, I selected the Online – Free tab in the AZ-900 exam link to start my exam preparation. In Microsoft Terminology, they call it Learning paths to gain the skills needed to become certified in this exam. There will be four modules in this exam, and each module will have its own sub-modules; these modules cover all the concepts required to clear the exam and some labs. In this learning process, Microsoft will give you a free account that comes with some free credit (typically 200$ credit) valid for one month and some of the azure services for 12 months. Also, in this learning path, Microsoft will create sandboxes for you, which are valid for 4 hours, and some of the sandboxes will be available for 2 hours to perform some exercises on the spot on the topics you're going to learn. I will strongly recommend not to skip this step as these practice sessions will give you practical knowledge on using the resources and help you in the exam. Do not miss any of the modules in the learning path because each module is essential in understanding the concepts and to clear the exam.

One should focus on the following modules to clear this exam, and AZ-900 is all about knowing the overview of azure services and their products.

  1. Cloud concepts
  2. Core Azure services
  3. Security, privacy, compliance, and trust
  4. Azure pricing Service Level Agreements and Lifecycles.

Once you’re done with Microsoft's free training, check out the Microsoft Azure Documentation website, where you will find more information about the azure products and service along with some sample codes and tutorials. That's all I did to clear my AZ-900 exam.

If you want to practice the exam before you take the real one, there are some free and paid versions of Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) practice tests available in Udemy, Whizlabs, and some other online training websites.

I hope my experience will help a little bit in your preparation for this exam. Good Luck!
